The Watchers
Writing a book which involves Enoch and the times of Pre-Flood days takes a bit of careful thinking and maneuvering because of the plethora of apocryphal books dedicated to this mysterious time. The LDS church, for example, have a great deal about Enoch in several of their approved books. These are books I do not wish to highlight, nor do I wish to bring elements from them into my story line.
However, there are other apocryphal stories that I do not mind borrowing small bits from. The term “the Watchers,” for example, comes from apocryphal document called The Book of Enoch. Apparently, it was a very in vogue book in some Jewish and Christian circles in the 1st Century AD. It is about Enoch and his interactions with heavenly beings called the Watchers. I do not follow the story line of that book, but like the book of Jubilees I do take terms and names from them. This is done as nod to these stories to show that, as an author of story with Enoch, I am aware of this literature’s existence. Terms and names like “The Watchers,” “Head of Days,” and Enoch’s city “Parvaim” are taken from such documents.
