Ink-bottleChapter VII

Elijah

In 2 Kings chapter two, we read the story of Elijah being taken from earth in a whirlwind and a chariot of fire. We seem always to assume Elijah went to straight to heaven. But what if he made several pit stops along the way? After all, the next time where hear of him is in the New Testament during the Transfiguration, when he and Moses appear talking with Jesus in front of Peter, James, and John. Why could he not have come into the present after that? The chariot had to take him somewhere. If you remember in Commencement, Elijah (unnamed at that time) was described like this, “The man was old and sported a long gray beard. He wore a long tunic with no cloak.” That description was a reference to the fact that Elijah had left his cloak with Elisha before he left. Read the account in 2 Kings to see.

“Elisha then picked up Elijah’s cloak that had fallen from him and went back and stood on the bank of the Jordan.” 2 Kings 2:13
