Cherubim and Mercy Seat

In writing this book, I noticed something very interesting.  The Cherubim both guard the way to the Tree of Life in the Garden of Eden and they guard the Mercy Seat on the Ark of the Covenant. I suppose you could say that their job is guarding sacred things. But perhaps it is deeper than that. Does there not seem to be a connection between the Tree of Life and the Mercy Seat of God? I think there is. Are they in some way the same thing? Who knows, but it is an interesting coincidence to me. I thought it would be good to have the angel who once stood with a flaming sword keeping humans away be same one who knelt at the Mercy Seat of God.
