Mustard Seed and Shortened Life
Mustard Seed
In the Bible, Enoch is described as a man of immense faith and clearly Logan would have known this about Enoch having read the Bible many times. It seemed only natural that such a man would be told of Jesus’s metaphor of how faith the size of a mustard seed would move mountains.
The way in each of these men is dealing with faith is very different. Enoch is grappling with his faith not in terms of his role in life, but in whether or not he has the patience and strength to succeed at the task ahead of him. Logan’s challenge is much more basic. He is not sure he trusts this God that has kidnapped him and sent him back in time. He is not even sure why he was there in the Ancient world Logan has to figure out if he can have faith in such a God as this.
Shortened Life
I felt it was important to consider why God would shorten the life of mankind. Clearly, there was a punitive aspect to it. However, I think there was more to it. I wanted the reader to consider how much trouble people could get into if their lives extended nearly ten times that of what they are now. The sheer havoc humans could wreak on each other and the planet would be enormous. It also helps us understand why Genesis would report that the actions of men at that time were only for evil. After having to consider many differences in society due to an extremely long life for this series, that estimation does not seem unlikely at all.
